St. Patrick is an all-male Catholic high school on
Chicago’s northwest side. Its mission is to provide “an educational experience
of the highest quality which enables young men to develop their maximum
potential as lifelong learners and assets to society and the church.”
Established in 1861, the school has a rich history, quality faculty and
programs, and a dynamic leadership. Innovations such as the addition of a
bright, modern atrium and a theater that attracts area performing artists have
helped the school stay relevant and vital.
The Challenge
To build on this legacy and address challenges, St.
Patrick’s Board of Trustees wanted to develop a new strategic plan and called in
ESC.

ESC’s Response
The board and staff organized a two-day planning session to
be facilitated by three ESC consultants. Beforehand, the ESC team met with
the St. Patrick president and board chair to determine the expected
outcomes and set an agenda. Session participants completed a
questionnaire, and students, parents, and faculty were surveyed. This
provided the framework for discussion about St. Patrick’s future.
In the planning session, the group brainstormed critical
issues facing the school over the next three years. The issues were
divided into four categories, and work groups formed for each category.
Facilitated by ESC, the groups analyzed and prioritized the issues and
prepared goals and objectives. The session concluded with a presentation
by each group and open discussion. |
