Kenwood Academy is one of the highest-ranked Chicago Public
Schools. It is a four-year high school with a special program for gifted
students in grades 7 through 12. More than 1,800 students are enrolled at
Kenwood, which is located in Hyde Park.
The Challenge
Kenwood Academy was chosen to participate in the Chicago
Public School System and University of Chicago Internet Project (CUIP), which is
enabling 29 South Side schools to utilize PC and Internet technology in their
curricula. This meant developing computer labs, wiring classrooms, and fully
integrating technology into lesson plans and classroom activities. Kenwood
needed management assistance to prepare for this transition to a technology
environment.

ESC’s Response
The ESC team began with a diagnostic
assessment of the internal operations at Kenwood and the current use of
technology. Next, they facilitated a series of meetings to identify critical
issues and develop an action plan.
|
The Outcome
ESC’s direction helped Kenwood’s Technology Committee
to secure funding; purchase equipment and software; communicate with
contractors, administration, and CUIP representatives; and coordinate faculty
training. The project stayed on target and
on schedule, and all of the school’s classrooms are now Internet compatible.
Besides enjoying its own success, Kenwood Academy is
becoming a model for other schools in the use of integrated systems in the
classroom.
What our client had to say
“Without ESC, our day-to-day tasks would have taken
precedence over this project. The ESC team kept us moving forward and focused on
our goals.”
