ESC was founded in 1978 by a group of civic-minded Chicago corporate leaders who wanted opportunities for themselves and their peers to "give back" to the community. Growing out of the Chicago Community Trust's Life Options Program and with support from Chicago United and the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, these founders recognized that by engaging their vast knowledge, skills and experience they could strengthen nonprofits. As a result nonprofits would be better equipped to serve the people and communities of metropolitan Chicago.
ESC enhances the overall impact of Chicago area nonprofits through professional, affordable consulting services enabling them to better meet the needs of those they serve.

In 2013 ESC is celebrating 35 years of service to metropolitan Chicago's nonprofits and public agencies with professional, affordable consulting services to meet their needs. On September 21, nearly 100 ESC supporters came together to celebrate ESC's impact at the Art of Excellence event, raising funds to support ESC's mission.
ESC provided ALZ-GIC with practical human resources management guidance that led to them being awarded $18,000 for support in implementation.
