IT'S LONELY AT THE TOP

You’re the Boss.

You have ideas, problems and questions about your organization.

Who can you talk to?

Not your staff – they may not open up to you, or the issue may be a sensitive HR problem.

Not your Board – the issue may be about them.

Not your partner – while they care, they can’t be objective.

Not your friends – they just don’t have the experience you need.

Michael Banghart, Renaissance Social Services, and Susan Peters, Alternatives Inc, listen to peers during a Fund Development Roundtable

NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP ROUNDTABLE

ESC’s Nonprofit Leadership Roundtable is a forum where you can discuss your ideas and problems with other nonprofit leaders and managers.

·         Confidential discussions.

·         Professional advice from experts on topics you and the group select.

·         Relevant experience – members are leaders just like you.

·         Idea-generating feedback – opens your mind to new approaches.

·         Networking contacts with other executive directors.

·         Easy process – administration is handled by ESC.

How Does It Work?

The Nonprofit Leadership Roundtable meets once a month for a term of eight months.  Each meeting starts at 8:30 AM and lasts two hours to give you a chance to put in a full day at work afterwards. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, since all of the members are your peers. ESC hosts the meeting, but the members set the agenda for the term and the day. Two ESC consultants facilitate and keep the conversations focused. ESC also finds experts to speak on subjects selected by the members.

As a member of the group, you have a chance to describe your organization, plans, and any particular challenges or questions you have. Group members offer their own experiences and suggestions. At subsequent meetings, you can report on what you tried and how it worked. This accountability to the group helps you stay focused and take action on the problems you most need to address.

Each member will also receive two free leadership coaching sessions from an ESC coach.

Who Belongs to the Nonprofit Leadership Roundtable?

Membership in the Nonprofit Leadership Roundtable is limited to twelve. It is restricted to Executive Directors or Presidents of nonprofit organizations in the Chicago area. More than five dozen Chicago area nonprofit leaders have attended the seven Nonprofit Leadership Roundtables since their inception.

What Do Participants Say?

“The Roundtable is a winning combination of pertinent topics, stimulating speakers and an opportunity to exchange ideas with fellow executive directors.”

“An invaluable opportunity to remind yourself that nonprofit leaders are grappling with the same issues – and a unique place to learn from each other or jointly problem solve. One-of-a-kind and indispensable.”

What does it cost?

The registration fee for an eight-month term is $350.

When is the next Roundtable starting?

The next series begins Thursday, October 9, 2008 and continues through May 14, 2009 (second Thursday of the month).
